Pioneering technology set to change the way we think about total hip replacement surgery
20 February 2015
Everyone of us has a unique activity profile. This needs to be accounted for in joint replacement surgery and with the use of innovative technology, it is possible to optimise the position of a joint replacement relative to an individual's activity profile.
As a leading global orthopaedic company, Corin recognised this and has identified a unique solution, in the acquisition of technology innovator, Optimized Ortho, that addresses the two big questions in hip replacement surgery today:
- What is the target for a well-positioned cup?
- How can we achieve that position?
During the past week this state-of-the-art technology was used for the first time outside of Australia, at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford, England, with Professor Sion Glyn-Jones, and at the Oberndorf Hospital, near Salzburg, Austria with Dr Thomas Ramsauer and Dr Michael Antosch.
Corin's Optimized Positioning System (OPS™), offers the surgeon a specific and optimised set of target orientations for the position of a joint replacement, and works in symmetry with a simple and intuitive laser guided system for use in theatres.
We are proud to be helping to optimise outcomes in clinical practice by introducing this world-first technology.
