About Wrightington Hospital

Wrightington Hospital stands in pleasant open countryside between Southport and Wigan, and was built in the extensive grounds of Wrightington Hall, formerly the home of the Gerard family. Located just half a mile from junction 27 of the M6 motorway, the hospital is readily accessible by road.

Wrightington Hospital's status as an Orthopaedic and Musculosketeal Centre of Excellence originated with the seminal work of Professor Sir John Charnley, who pioneered hip replacement surgery involving the techniques of low-friction arthroplasty and also innovative advances to counter post-operative infection. The first ever total hip replacement operation was performed by Sir Charnley at Wrightington in 1960.

Annually, we perform amongst the highest by volume hip and knee replacements in the UK, including revision replacement surgery. Thanks to our committed team-working efforts we are proud to have amongst the lowest infection rates, revision rates and best patient reported outcomes following primary hip and knee replacement surgery. While drawing strength from the past, the hospital is also at the forefront of innovation, cementing its reputation as a hospital at the leading edge of both practice and research, dedicated to improving outcomes for patients requiring Orthopaedic care.

I have been a Consultant since 2017, having trained in the North West of England and completed my fellowship training at Wrightington Hospital. My clinical areas of subspeciality interest lie in hip and knee primary/ complex/ revision arthroplasty, young adult hip management (arthroscopy) and lower limb metastatic bone disease management.

I am involved in a number of quality improvement projects in our Unit including implementation of the nationally run QIST and PQIP initiatives. I am involved in the development and running of a pilot in Daycase THR surgery which is progressing very well.

Apart from my clinical activities, I am committed to the academic development and throughput of our Unit. I am currently completing a research-based MPhil degree at the University of Manchester assessing the influence of acetabular component geometry on the risk of revision surgery for dislocation. I am involved in a number of clinical trials at various levels from Chief Investigator to co-investigator. I am recruiting to the nationally run HAPI trial, randomising patients to Corin OPS vs non-OPS THR surgery.
